Internet purchases & Paypal

I recently purchased 133 USD worth of LEDs with Paypal system from an Australian company & never received them. I contacted them after 4 weeks & they said to "please wait a resonable amount of time". I continued to stay in contact & they persised in holding me off with basically the same ploy. After 55 days I contacted Paypal & was told that they only cover me for undelivered item until 45 days. I again contacted the Australian company & suggested that they put me off on purpose so the time would lapse. They said they sent it & it was my problem.

I have now contacted my Visa Bank card & sent in a claim. I will see what happens.

Granted it was my fault for not reading the Paypal agreement but it seems that paypal should put a longer time limit on the delivery.

Anyone else had any problemswith this?

Bad Job Recruiter in UK

Recently signed a contract with a Uk firm for work. Contratcted stated that 30 days notice was to be given prior to either party leaving. I was terminated after 6 weeks and given 4 days notice prior to my return date. I contacted the agent & he said that althoough this was harsh that was how it was & they would not pay nay more money for the short notice.

I signed what I thought was a decent honest contract BUT as you see it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. I am sure that had I left first I would never have seen my pay for th that time period

Has anyone else gotten into this garbage.

Nigeria Again!

I see that some more Halliburton men were recently held up at gunpoint in the town center.
I guess they will never learn until the list gets longer & deadlier.
I am at a loss to see what the attraction is in this country. It is not he pay because it is the same almost everywhere. It certainly is not the location because there is nothing there for anyone.

Brain washing is the only explanation I can come up with. Are you guys so desperate for work that you are willing to go there? Really a stupid decision.

Say NO to NIGERIA work

Just in case anyone is still foolish enough to accept a job in this country please take note of the following story. Keep in mind that not all agenies are like this one & many are well informed. But when it comes to Nigeria YOU are the one that must know what you are getting into.

I was give a proposition to be a back to back relief with a friend of mine. We were assured that it was in a secure & safe place & well organized. My friend has just returned form what was discribed a secure safe position as a mud eng offshore. After one week the rig next to his was raided & men taken as hostages. He was lucky for the next 2 weeks but there were numerous incidents including him being blackmailed by the senior local hand on the rig. On his trip home he was delayed in town & sent to a very questionable hotel where one expat man had just been killed & 3 wounded during a robbery attempt. He is still waiting to receive his salary which also looks like it may be a long drawn out problem.

I refused to go & he will not be returning for any reason.

Another close friend was shot dead in May of last year as he was traveling in a company car to his office. NO money is worth your life & I am aggivated with the constant job offers for this deadly spot.

Later, Steve

Health Insurance Advice

I have changed my health insurance company 3 times in the last 8 years always for the same reason. They decided to cancel the Chronic disease cover. Chronic means any condition that manifests itself and has no known cure & there are hundreds: diabetes, many heart conditions etc. They will pay to stabilize your condition but once it is diagnosed as Chronic you are out of luck. Can you imagine paying a fortune for your health Insurance for years only to find out after that you have one of these conditions in your later years? Bye, Bye bank account or your life as you knew it.

I always take a big deductible because I am not interested in getting paid for a cut hand. I only want it for MAJOR medical reasons & as far as I am concerned Chronic is a major incident.

Most of the people I spoke with were unaware of this glitch in most programs so be aware & look carefully before signing on. I am talking about most of the major companies including the big ones like BUPA.

I have UK company now that covers almost everything & so far so good. Let me know if you have any companies that offer this coverage at a fair cost.

Thanks

oilfield wages

After 29 years experience as a drilling fluids engineer I find that the day rates for my services are declining in many countries. Many areas are begging for experienced men with full qualifications but are not willing to pay. I recently had an offer from the Emirates for $3500 a month when the going rate is $850+ a day! Yeah it is a lot of money but it is also work that many people can't handle or have the brains to do. They want western experience but pay Indian wages. I tell them "You get what you pay for".
I also get annoyed when some of my fellow engineers take positions that offer low wages when they should hold out for the correct day rate. This just makes it had for the rest of us. There is plenty of workout there so just take the good ones.

I'd like to hear form some of you on this.
